The photographs capture the spirit of today's residents, workers, and visitors against a backdrop of the area's rich and wonderful historic buildings. The book, accompanied by a lively local history, is intended to show how the neighborhood's streetscapes are not only beautiful and irreplaceable, but also serve to enrich and enliven everyday modern life. Chinatown's streetscapes are now in danger: if the city does not protect them through landmarking or other means they will fall prey to demolition and overdevelopment. | |
